Up the (Charles) river for 20 years.

One week each October when the leaves start to fall and college students begin to wear hoodies Boston and Cambridge host an athletic event of singular beauty – at least I think so. It is the Head of the Charles Regatta. The regatta draws a crowd of several hundred thousand spectators to cheer on their alma mater or just to enjoy a picnic on the Charles.

I have shooting the event for as long as I remember. But only when the weather is cooperative. Boston weather in October can be extremely temperamental. These two photos are separated by roughly 20 years. They are also separated by the changing technology. I began shooting in black and white on film and now I shoot digitally and work primarily in color.

The beauty of the event has never changed.
